How The Pink Nail Snail® Is Providing Support for Expectant Parents

The newest addition to the Nail Snail® colour range is here and we’re sure you’re going to love it as much as we do. Introducing the Limited-Edition Frangipani Pink Nail Snail® and our new charity partner, an extremely worthwhile cause - The Pink Elephants Support Network.

Selling the last Limited-edition Jacaranda Purple Nail Snail® was a bittersweet moment for us here at Christie & Christie®. Whilst we’ve been delighted with the success its sales have achieved by raising vital funds to support The Immunisation Foundation of Australia – Light for Riley Project, we are sad to say goodbye to such a beautiful colour.

Unwavering in her decision to continue to support Australian-based charities, Julia knew we would need to release a new limited-edition colour, but the question was, which colour? This time, we decided to put the question to the Nail Snail® Facebook & Instagram community and the overwhelming response was for Pink! With this colour choice in mind, the team then had to find the right charity partner that the funds raised would go towards.

Nail Snail Team

At Christie & Christie® we have established a close knit and inclusive small team of work from home mums who endeavour to support each other. Some of us have been touched by the loss of an unborn child or know of someone who has suffered through the pain and emotional anguish which is entwined with such an event. This personal connection deeply resonated with us and so we wholeheartedly sought to raise funds for The Pink Elephants Support Network via the sale of our Frangipani Pink Nail Snail®. Having the right support for miscarriage, is vital for healing both physically and mentally.

Julia herself has a personal connection to Pink Elephants after having experienced the pain and grief of miscarriage first hand. The first (her very first pregnancy) was a blighted ova at 4 weeks and the second time was a year after her son was born. This time around, Julia was 16 weeks pregnant, beginning to show and had shared her special news with friends and family. After returning home from Canada and suffering a nasty bout of food poisoning, she started spotting and immediately went to emergency. Julia can still vividly remember the anguished noise she made during the scan when the Doctor informed her there was no heartbeat. Then, on Father’s Day she had to deliver the little body after labouring for 5 hours. The empty feeling of leaving the hospital with no baby in her arms, and to send messages to family and friends about her miscarriage is still incredibly hard to talk about and even type. Hands down the worst moment of her life.

Fortunately Julia had her loving and supporting husband, parents (and gorgeous little boy) who were such a light and joy in a time of heartache. She also went on to have two more healthy and happy pregnancies, which tragically isn’t always the case. Miscarriage and still birth are not easy topics to talk about, but are the so very crucial to share.

Our hearts go out to any parent who has experienced miscarriage or stillbirth and believe that the Pink Elephants Support Network are doing a wonderful job in supporting those in their darkest times.

Introducing Frangipani Pink Nail Snail Baby Nail Trimmer

This Australian organisation was set up to help support women who have experienced early miscarriage. The Pink Elephants offer a wide range of support to women from the initial miscarriage diagnosis, to the ensuing loss/ procedure and knowing what to expect. They also include the kind of support that partners, family, friends and even healthcare professionals can give, as what they do or don’t say can have a lasting impact. The organisation has worked tirelessly to have all the information readily accessible and in the one spot.

Sadly, miscarriages are a common occurrence, with up to 1 in 5 pregnancies ending before Week 20. As a result, many expectant parents choose to wait for the unofficial “12 week” mark to announce their pregnancy.  However, social trends seem to be shifting and with good cause. During a time that is such an emotional roller coaster, why shouldn’t you have the support of family and friends around you in case you do need it? Whilst at first this love and support seems like little consolation when you are feeling so incredibly heartbroken, it is so very important to have, as you come to terms with the loss of your much-wanted baby.

As well as nurturing our physical and mental health, The Pink Elephants Support Network wants to reduce the feelings of isolation by connecting women to other women who have experienced the journey before them and are now able to mentor others. Connecting to someone who “gets it” offers validation, and a realisation that conversations need to be had to move beyond the grief and move forward.

The Pink Elephants Support Network assist grieving mothers on 3 main levels:

  1.   Through their Peer Support Programme
  2.   By providing Emotional Support Resources
  3.   By creating a #circleofsupport.

Through their Peer Support Programme, they give women who are currently experiencing miscarriage and early pregnancy loss, a connection with another woman who has been there before…who ‘gets it’. Knowing that they’re not alone, and that others understand how they’re feeling can be really helpful for some women moving forward, as far too often our discomfort or unease of the topic means that they are left with a “wall of silence”.

Pink Elephants provides the latest resources, information, and peer-support for anyone impacted by early pregnancy loss. Using evidence, empathy and connection, their unique digital-first approach offers a single source of specialist support, whenever and wherever it’s needed — for anyone who has directly experienced it, or for family and friends, corporate partners or healthcare professionals seeking proven ways to help. As many of us have known family or friends that have suffered the physical and psychological pain of a miscarriage, being able to offer the right support during such a challenging time can be unclear. The downloadable Emotional Support Resources are extremely helpful guides and a great place to start.

The #circleofsupport collective is the poignant heartbeat of Pink Elephants. Like the elephants who hold space to support a grieving mother, they understand the importance of creating safe spaces.  They ensure no one walks the journey alone and create a strong #circleofsupport around all those who need it.

As a team of mothers and friends, we could not go past such a meaningful cause and are proud to be donating 50 cents from the sale of each limited-edition Frangipani Pink Nail Snail® to The Pink Elephants Support Network so that they can continue to provide this essential support.

With only 3,000 of this gorgeous Nail Snail® colour made, they are already selling fast and for the first time even available through some of our wonderful stockists. We would like to thank our wonderful customers for their ongoing support and look forward to seeing their gorgeous pictures of their new Nail Snail® in action.
