In a world that gravitates to elaborate visualizations, I truly enjoy a good whiteboard session to connect dots and layer-in critical information. My mother was a formidable educator who has always scaffolded information based on existing mental models and integrated embodied learning for greater retention. In the baseball world, this is quite easy when you blend motor learning into theoretical education (science and practice of baseball strength and coordination). We did just that with one MLB team who is taking a stance on arm injuries and ready to put down the pink dumbbells (3lbs weights). After losing almost 72M in pitching arm injuries (some years greater than 10M in losses), they have invested in the current and future health of the team by hiring great people who are dedicated to education, collaboration and creation of a unified front in treating, training, coaching, scouting, and monitoring athletes. We kicked off our talk by identifying how to parallel velocity enhancement and health simultaneously by being dynamic and individual in an approach to adjust for changes in muscle strength and tendon length. Kudos to Fitt's Law as this nugget of enlightenment has really shaped our training approach. Very important concept in maintaining health while maximizing performance. Do you feel the emphasis on velocity via player stat postings by organizations like Perfect Game and PBR are contributing to the lack of knowledge about arm/shoulder injuries? It's one thing to pitch and throw at high velocity, but at what cost if the player does not have proper mechanics and control? I'm seeing it everywhere when I'm out scouting. What are your thoughts?

Acceleration vs accuracy in regards to its effect on movement strategies based on the desired outcome. Would be interesting to look at stress levels in relation to accuracy perfomance and see how many players find injury due to movement constraints caused by accuracy dependent situation i.e. situation stress caused by games or environment.  Is it a quick fix to train targeting speed on the mental side to allow longer perceived target tracking/identification in order to match the movement requirements of acceleration in order to create a more dynamic system that doesn't fight training with game performance?

And how might you improve target recognition… 😉 I haven’t heard from you in a while, but I hope you received all you needed from me!
